Dentistry - Again?!

I took these pictures last month. Please don’t let this be your horse. Annual dentistry is a vital part of your horse’s long term health plan. Performing routine dentistry is hard work, but it is so much more rewarding than designing a diet for an 18 year old horse with a neglected bite that no longer has ANY option for effective occlusion.

Every year I am called out to perform internal medicine work ups on patients with chronic weight loss to discover the only problem is in the horse’s mouth! These horses can’t utilize the nutrition provided because their teeth can no longer perform the first step critical to normal digestion: effective chewing. In some cases even after the most advanced dentistry their owners are left with expensive, labor intensive dietary management for the rest of the horse’s life.

Microchip! Oral exam! Flu/Rhino! Fecal exam! Yikes!
